Announcing: THE GASHLYCRUMB TINIES GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY LIMITED EDITION PORTFOLIO
"A is for Amy who fell down the stairs; B is for Basil assaulted by bears…"
That couplet announcing the untimely demise of twenty-six very unfortunate children, has amused and horrified readers – often concurrently – for fifty years.
In 2013 we celebrate the golden anniversary of the publication of The Gashlycrumb Tinies, Edward Gorey’s most iconic alphabet book and likely his best known work. Its images have graced postcards and posters, magnets and mugs; for Gorey lovers and for novices, affection for the Tinies endures. Indeed, The Gashlycrumb Tinies, over its fifty-year history, has never been out of print.
The Edward Gorey House museum has been honoring this publishing milestone with its 2013 annual exhibit devoted to The Vinegar Works, the set in which the Tinies made their first appearance in 1963 with companion volumes The Insect God and The West Wing.
Adding an appropriate capstone to the celebration, this October the Edward Gorey House is issuing as separate plates the twenty-six Tinies and the original cover image, each suitable for framing.
Images are printed in their original size of 5" x 6" on 8" x 10" art paper. Enclosed with the plates in an attractive portfolio are an additional celebratory title-card and a colophon card giving the details about this unique edition.
This portfolio edition will be strictly limited to one hundred numbered sets and twenty-six lettered sets.
The new celebratory title-cards and the colophon cards will be blind-embossed with Gorey’s signature. In addition, each item within the set will be marked with the set’s identifying number or letter.
The lettered sets will include as a bonus a plate of the rejected “F is for Fanny” image (“rejected” by Edward himself who chose to re-work it for the final book). This unused version is currently on view as part of our 2013 exhibit and which is being reproduced separately for the first time.
Numbered sets are priced at $450 plus shipping; lettered sets are priced at $550 plus shipping. |
